ARCKIT Model 42

Featuring Zack Bishop

Project Details

Here, Zack and I present Arckit Model 42, a modern beach home design. As a model home on stilts (my first ever!), we divided the project into two parts: the building of the structure and the creation of the foundation. The key features of this project included a wrap-around porch and a lofted attic space. We built the project at a 1:48 scale, where each Arckit unit represents 4ft x 4ft or 1.2m x 1.2m.

After laying out the base of the home, we placed walls to outline a kitchen, dining room, living room, office, and master bedroom, and created a lofted attic space by laying out floor plates over half the lower floor. We used Arckit half-walls to construct an extended-height ceiling, and a perimeter around the lofted space to create a jointed platform to connect to six gables.

After we tiled the roof, we lifted the entire structure onto a foundation of eight columns and a staircase, and then placed railings along the perimeter of the entire deck to complete the structure.
